The world faces constant threats and the problems we are exposed to are overwhelming and the situation is difficult. We are also affected far more than we realize by the culture and ways of thinking of the world. This does not surprise God. It is His world and he knows and cares about, what is going in. It is a great help then to understand afresh the great clarity of purpose we enjoy as Sons and Daughters of God. This work of reconciliation is crucial in making men whole, but God does not leave us without the means to do it. His power is as available to us today as it was in the exciting, dangerous times of the early church and as a world-wide body of believers we each take our role.

We are participating in the permanent building of an invisible kingdom and it is the most satisfying thing we can do - take our part in the eternal purpose of making men whole. JBPhillips wrote this book which is incredibly helpful in bringing clarity to a confused culture, and reminding us of what is true, what is permanent and what we are doing here. It is a great antidote to the strenuous and impossible doctrines of many ‘self-help’ guides, re-focusing us on God’s purposes and not our own.
